We are now looking for a Health, Safety & Security Manager to lead and strengthen our Health, Safety & Security agenda across Spain and Morocco. Working closely with local leadership teams, operational managers and our Global Health, Safety & Security function, you will champion a proactive safety culture, drive continuous improvement, and help ensure that every colleague returns home safely every day.
About the role
As Health, Safety & Security Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all land-based Health, Safety & Security activities across DFDS operations in Spain and Morocco. You will work across multiple locations, including ports, warehouses and offices, while closely collaborating with the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) to ensure strong alignment between shore operations and our Spanish-flagged vessels.
You will act as the local subject matter expert and trusted advisor, translating global HSS strategies into practical actions that support business performance, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
This role reports directly to the Operations Director and works in close partnership with the Global Health, Safety & Security Team.
Your key responsibilities will include
Leading the HSS agenda
Driving the Health, Safety & Security strategy across DFDS operations in Spain and Morocco.
Promoting a strong safety-first culture across all locations and departments.
Acting as the primary advisor to local management on HSS matters.
Risk management and compliance
Conducting risk assessments and maintaining an up-to-date risk register.
Monitoring legal and regulatory requirements and ensuring compliance with local legislation.
Performing regular audits, inspections and workplace assessments.
Managing corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives following audits and inspections.
Training, awareness and engagement
Delivering Health, Safety & Security training programmes.
Raising awareness through campaigns, workshops and engagement activities.
Supporting accident and incident investigations and ensuring lessons learned are effectively communicated.
Systems and governance
Managing incidents, observations and actions through DFDS' safety management systems.
Maintaining Health, Safety & Security procedures and related documentation.
Supporting reporting and performance monitoring through relevant KPIs and metrics.
Collaboration and stakeholder management
Working closely with Marine Standards and the DPA to ensure consistent safety standards across ship and shore operations.
Building strong relationships with managers, employees, contractors, authorities and external partners.
Supporting cross-functional initiatives that integrate safety principles into daily operations.
About you
You are passionate about creating safe workplaces and building a positive safety culture. You combine strong technical knowledge with excellent communication skills, enabling you to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
You are organised, pragmatic and confident working independently across multiple locations and operational environments.
Experience & Knowledge
Minimum 3-5 years of documented experience within Health, Safety & Security roles.
Strong knowledge of Spanish occupational health and safety legislation.
Experience conducting risk assessments and applying hazard identification methodologies.
Previous experience in port operations, maritime environments, logistics or warehousing is considered a strong advantage.
Experience working with audits, compliance management and incident investigations.
Understanding of stakeholder management in complex operational environments.

Qualifications
Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Risk Management or a related discipline.
Official Master's Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention (Máster Oficial en Prevención de Riesgos Laborales) will be considered a strong advantage.
Fluent in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
Knowledge of French would be advantageous for collaboration with stakeholders in Morocco.
Proficient user of the Microsoft 365 suite.
Willingness to travel regularly across Spain and Morocco, including locations such as Algeciras, Madrid, Barcelona, Irún, Tangier.
